Definite pause, yes. As you said - three kids, all small, with a morning and afternoon nap schedule in place. Doesn't make getting out of the house very easy at the moment.

Have you paused? I can see how the three kids would slow you down, especially as they get old enough to have real (and differing) opinions.

I'm just reading a book from each shelf, but I'm missing the picture books and may go back to more of them now that we're into the chapter book section.

I have requested the first two from our library. What excited me even more was discovering she'd written a book called Finn MacCool. I know people that knew MWB and through them, I know that MWB was a free spirited and bright woman that was just beginning to know herself, when she tragically died. She was among a group of authors that started the "picture book" industry. She was brilliant at knowing who was the right illustrator for her stories and was allowed to choose them and work with them to create her books. Personally, I do not think that anything that has been published posthumously is really a book by MWB. A child's best role model are parents. When I child is old enough to read biographies then they will have the foundation of their good upbringing to judge others for themselves.

The other night I got to go to the library BY MYSELF! I had written down your suggestion of Eve Bunting as well as Cynthia X...the Poppleton books. Well, I came home with a Bunting, but no Poppleton. (Will have to order that through the larger library system.) There were lots of books by her, just not the Poppleton ones. We did grab a few. :)

Fun books. Eve Bunting seems to have a wide range of books.

HI- I'm working on a bibliography of books by Margaret Wise Brown.
There is one other Noisy Book;
The Noisy Bird Book, illust. by Leonard Weisgard and published by William R. Scott in 1943-
The title "The CIty Noisy Book" may be "The Noisy Book"
even though "The CIty Noisy book" has been listed as being published in 1946, I can find no record of it. So it may be in fact "The Noisy Book" I'm still working on tracking it down.

Oh my! No clam shells to cover the mermaids! AND his mom dies?! I think we'll leave those in the library!! I think Ellie might be scarred for life by our trip to see Broadway's Lion King last week. She nearly lost it when the daddy lion was killed. I don't know why I didn't think to prepare her for that. My kids haven't seen the movie version because it's too intense. The stage version wasn't all that intense but she sure keyed on the daddy dying. You just never know what a child will focus on!

I LOVE Babar -- one of my absolute favorites from childhood. I loved the unfamiliarity of the place and the lifestyle, the hint of exoticism. Had I children (and thus an excuse to buy the books), Babar would definitely be on my bookshelf.

On a somewhat unrelated note, Bambi scarred me for life. I saw it once as a child, and it left such a negative impact on me that I've refused to watch it since. Goofy, I know. But there was something about it that I didn't like.
