Reading My Library

While I get my act together...

We've been reading through our library stack which we collected yesterday and so I'll be writing up reviews and highlights on our favorites which will start popping up next week.

In the meantime, today we also went to the Teddy Bear Picnic hosted by our local library which they hold every year. I have some pictures of that to stick up here, along with some information about the performer who kept the children engaged with the event. Just kinda poking along and picking up the pace again.

In the meantime, have you heard of Bella the Rabbit, by Mandy Stanley? You might also know Bella by her UK name - Lettice. Tiger Tales Books have just picked up the series and is redistributing them in the U.S. This little bunny is awfully cute. I reviewed the two titles just released over on Reading to Know and I also have a set of the books to give away. If you'd like to leave a comment over there you might just win. And, if that fails, you can always check and see if your local library has them!

And the other thing I am excited about (which I host yearly over at Reading to Know) is the Chronicles of Narnia Reading Challenge which starts TOMORROW! (July 1st, 2010)

Chronicles of Narnia

To find out more about that you can read my introductory post.

So, if I'm not talking library books around these parts, I'll definitely be focusing on Narnia related activities because I have plans to take Bookworm1 into Narnia with me this year! (There are plenty of children's book resources to bring Narnia to life for the younger kids. You just have to hunt harder for them!) I'm excited to share these books with my own sons - and anyone else I can drag along for the ride. Care to come with us to Narnia? I hope you will consider it! There will be more information about the start of the challenge (which also has a giveaway, yes!) tomorrow over on Reading to Know.

Ok....back to the books....

Looking forward to the summer time and finding more books! Thanks for your warm welcome back into this challenge. Sure do appreciate the encouraging notes!

Status Report - June 2010

Since it has been a little while, I'm going to give a little update as to where I'm at as of today with this challenge:

Goal set for reading all of the children's picture books in our library:

Monday, September 28th

Progress as of today's date:

I've read (according to the last name of the author) through the "A" section and am into the "Bo" section.

Total number of picture books read:

By my count, 627.

Average number of times I go to the library during the week:

Average number of books checked out per visit:

I've made about 17 trips to the library, bringing the average number of books checked out per visit to about 36.

Favorite New-to-Me author I've discovered so far:

Today I discovered that Felicia Bond (illustrator for the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series) is a book author as well as an illustrator. I was sitting and reading through a book by Bond, thinking that the pig looked an awful lot like the pancake variety-type and made the connection. I didn't know she had penned her own books as well but the book was a requested re-read. I think we've read this particular title (soon to be reviewed) at least six times today alone.

Total amount of fines due so far:

$3.95 (Up $0.60 from the last time!)

I'm back. Really. At least, I think so!

Well, that was quite the little bloggy break, wasn't it?

Here's what happened:

1. In May I knew I was due to head out to the Book Expo in NYC and so I was trying to get my family ready for my absence and try to lower my own reading stack a bit before I left. I knew I'd come home with piles of books.

2. I went to the Book Expo (you can read a little about my trip to New York HERE).

3. I came back with a monstrous stack of books and I've been reading and reviewing like crazy over at Reading to Know and 5 Minutes for Books.

4. I've have been staring down a mountain of books and had very little motivation to go to the library and make the stack any bigger than it already was.

5. I kept reading.

6. I lowered the stack and started breathing normally again.

7. I went to the library this morning (and overheard my favorite librarian hosting story time) and stocked up.

8. Decided to keep Reading My Library alive and have re-engaged.

I'm back. At least, I'm pretty sure I am.

Stay tuned!
